Last Dance at the Zendah Grotto – SUNDAY May 31st

Posted By: Johnny Dancer
  • After 15 1/2 years hosting Sunday Dances and welcoming thousands of swing dancers from all over the world to Tampa’s Biggest Swing Dance at the Zendah Grotto, Swing Gang will be saying goodbye to this building. The Grotto Club is getting ready for sale.

In 1949, Zendah Grotto purchased this surplus Air Force mess hall from the US Government in Drew Park. They then began to remodel it for dances, club meetings, boy scouts, civic meetings and even a voting station for years. For decades the Zendah Grotto has housed the best floating hardwood dance floor in Tampa, and with the help of the internet the Zendah Grotto is famous among swing dancers all over the world.

Swing Gang will continue to do swing dance events in the Tampa Bay area, so keep your subscription with the Swing Dance News – for all the latest and the greatest.  MOST OF ALL, we only have ONE SUNDAY left at the Zendah Grotto.

The last Sunday is MAY 31st and it will be a Grand Reunion Finale like we have never had before. You will see dancers that haven’t been together in forever to re-experience the good times and honor and say goodbye to this historic swing dance venue.

Professor Pennygoode’s Mighty Flea Circus plays The GRAND REUNION FINALE of Swing Sunday LIVE at the Zendah Grotto May 31st in Tampa, Florida. The band hits the stage at 8PM after a one hour group swing dance lesson. They are a jive, swing, rockabilly, and jump-blues band playing the most toe-tappin’est, heart pumpin’est, partner swingin’est music around! Playing rug-cutting tunes from Jive-Era Swing, to 50’s Rockabilly, Roots, and Jump — music that has stood the test of time — Professor Pennygoode’s Mighty Flea Circus delivers a high quality, authentic show!” Hailing from the east coast of Florida, the band is a big hit with dancers and was featured at the final dance of the Tampa Lindy Exchange in 2014.

Admission is $12 at the door.

This is a very special night marking the final dance of the historic Zendah Grotto that has hosted Swing Gang’s Sunday Swing for 15 1/2 years. The building is being prepared for sale after this dance. Please attend if you can. It will be a momentous night for all of the Swing Dance community. The night will feature a group swing dance lesson with Will and Katy from 7-8 pm, VIP Guest DJs between sets and to finish off the night of dancing and a special night with Professor Pennygoode’s Mighty Flea Circus.

Let’s make the last Sunday at the Grotto the very best!

    —See you there—
